Woods'' success all down to luck?

20/03/2008

He may have won his last seven tournaments and be hailed by many commentators as the greatest golfer ever, but Tiger Woods believes that luck has played a major part in his phenomenal rise to the top.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live as he prepares to defend his WGC-CA Championship title at Doral in Miami this week, the Nike golfer revealed that success or failure on the course can often be determined by simple strokes of luck.

"You cannot win events without having a break here and there," the 32-year-old said.

"I have never played an event without having one break go my way in order to win," he added.

Woods has won 13 Majors to date and was also the first player in the history of the PGA Tour to win four different tournaments at least five times.

Although Woods may feel that he gets the rub of the green on occasion, the BBC''s Iain Carter recently stated that the US star''s ability and focus means that currently "there is no-one in world golf capable of beating him".

The Independent reported today that Ladbrokes has shortened its odds on Woods winning every event he enters this year to just 25-1.
