Ogilvy beats Woods to claim Doral title

Geoff Ogilvy recorded a surprise win at the WGC-CA Championship in Miami yesterday (March 24th) to end Tiger Woods'' run of seven straight tournament victories.

The Cobra golfer finished the course at Doral with a total of 271 - 17 under par and one shot clear of Vijay Singh Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen.

Woods started the tournament strongly on Thursday but some inaccurate putting meant that he had to settle for fifth place, finishing with a total of 15 under. However, the Nike golfer refused to be too disappointed about his failure to extend his winning streak.

"You want to win all of them - I just have to get ready for the next one," he said.

Commenting on his victory, Ogilvy stated: "It was a pretty stellar-looking leaderboard over those last nine holes, so it was very satisfying to beat those players and to win a big one."

The Australian triumphed at the US Open in 2006 and has now won two WGC events, becoming the third player to do so after Woods and Darren Clarke.
