Weekley defends title as Brits pull out

Boo Weekley finished on 15 under par to win the Heritage Classic in South Carolina yesterday.

The Cleveland golfer won by three shots to clinch the title at Hilton Head Island for the second consecutive year, while Nike player Anthony Kim was tied for second place with Adams golfer Aaron Baddeley.

Weekley was three shots ahead going into the final day''s play after a second round of 65, but could only manage a level-par 71 in his final round and admitted that he endured some shaky moments trying to close out the tournament.

"I slept good last night but protecting the lead I didn''t hit it very well today," the 34-year-old American said yesterday.

He added: "I actually made some good key putts and I got it up and down a couple of times. I just struggled."

Any British challenge to Weekley was effectively ended when Nick Dougherty pulled out before the final round citing family reasons. Justin Rose was forced to withdraw on Friday with a back injury.

Weekley''s win means that he is the first player to successfully defend the Heritage Classic title since Davis Love III in 1992.
