Clarke clinches Asian Open victory

Darren Clarke finished one shot ahead of Robert-Jan Derksen to claim victory at the Asian Open yesterday.

The Northern Irishman, who put himself in the driving seat with an accomplished third round of 67, carded a final round score of 73 to finish on eight under par in Shanghai.

English golfer Robert Dinwiddle was two shots behind Derksen on five under par, sharing third place with Italy''s Francesco Molinari and Lin Wen-tang of Taiwan.

Speaking after clinching his first win on the European Tour in five years, Clarke said: "I''ve been working harder than ever on all aspects of my game. It''s nice to see it pay off."

The 39-year-old, who lost his wife Heather to cancer in 2006, added: "It was always going to be a difficult hurdle for me to get back into the winner''s enclosure after Heather passed away - it''s a big mental hurdle that I have crossed today."

Greg Norman, who made a rare tournament appearance in Shanghai, finished tied for 14th place after a final round of 71.
