American golfer Jeff Maggert has pulled out of the Players Championship in Florida following the death of his brother Barry.
Jeff Maggert shot an even-par 72 on Thursday to put him in a position to challenge Sergio Garcia and the leading pack going into today''s play, but the unforeseen event has led to the player''s withdrawal.
Tournament officials at Sawgrass were informed that Jeff Maggert''s brother had been involved in a small plane crash in Colorado soon after the player had left the course on Thursday evening.
Barry Maggert had been en route to his son''s graduation from the University of Colorado in Boulder when the accident occurred.
Speaking yesterday before he had heard the news, the golfer had offered course advice to his fellow players.
"There''s no way you can have the golf course play the same all day long. If you accept that going in, you''re probably going to be OK handling it," he commented.
