Michelle Wie will enter the Reno-Tahoe Open later this month, it has been confirmed.
Beginning on July 31st, the PGA Tour event will see the 18-year-old compete against men for the eighth time since turning professional, although she has not made the cut in any previous tournament.
Wie has been criticised for entering men''s events in the past but she described the Reno-Tahoe Open as a "tremendous opportunity" this week.
"It''s not every day that a woman is given the chance to play on the greatest tour in the world," the Hawaiian player stated.
A frequently controversial figure since bursting onto the women''s golf scene as a young amateur, Wie was disqualified from the LPGA Tour''s State Farm Classic last weekend after failing to sign her third-round scorecard.
She has recently shown signs of regaining her best form following a miserable season in 2007, when she made only three cuts and struggled with serious wrist injuries.
