Els looks to PGA Championship

Ernie Els is targeting a good performance at next month''s PGA Championship following a difficult few days at Royal Birkdale.

The Callaway golfer put himself out of contention on the opening day at The Open by hitting a round of 80 – his worst ever score at a tournament which he won at Muirfield in 2002.

However, the South African recovered to post two one-under-par rounds of 69 and a 74, finishing on 12 over par for the tournament and taking a share of seventh place.

"At least I managed to break par twice. I can look forward to the next Major," Els said afterwards.

Turning his attention to PGA Championship, he added: "I''ve got one Major left and I''m going to work my tail off."

Els will head to the US to work with swing coach Bruce Harmon before the final Major of the year, which begins at Michigan''s Oakland Hills Country Club on August 4th.
