Chris Wood has secured his European Tour card for 2009 after finishing 15 under par at the six-round Qualifying School event in Spain.
The 20-year-old Bristol player, who burst onto the scene with a fifth-place finish at the Open in July, was among 32 golfers to earn cards for the 2009 season at PGA Golf de Catalunya this week.
Wood''s fellow Englishmen Danny Willett, Gary Clark and John Mellor all qualified at the Girona event, which was won by Sweden''s Oskar Henningsson.
Commenting on his achievement, Wood said afterwards: "At the time, the Open was as good as golf ever gets, but knowing I''ve got a whole year ahead of me on the European Tour, it''s just as good."
Former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart of Scotland also earned a Tour card at the Spanish course, joined by compatriots Chris Doak, David Drysdale and Callum MaCaulay.
Other British qualifiers included Northern Irish pair Michael Hoey and Jonathan Caldwell and Welshman Stuart Manley.
Henningsson, whose inspired performance saw him finish 21 under par in Girona, became the first player to progress through the first two stages of Qualifying School and win the final stage.
