Peter Hanson

Residence: Trelleborg, Sweden
DOB: 10/04/1977
Peter is still coached by Jan Larsson, the professional at Bokskogen, where he was first introduced to the game by neighbours. He continues to hold links with the club into his professional career. The Swede had a great amateur career, winning the Brabazon Trophy at Formby Golf Club in 1998 and representing Sweden in the Eisenhower Trophy during the same year. After turning professional in 1998 he spent a couple of years on the second-tier Challenge Tour. He secured his first professional win at the Gunther Hamburg Classic on the Challenge Tour in 1998 after failing to qualify for The Open which also took place that week. His maiden win on the European Tour came when he beat fellow Swede Peter Gustafsson in a play-off for the 2005 Jazztel Spanish Open at San Roque Club. He came close to repeating that success in 2007 and went on to seven top-ten finishes on his way to breaking into the top 20 on the Order of Merit for the first time. Peter was a member of the Continental Europe Team at the 2005 and 2007 Seve Trophy. 2008 was a career year for Peter. The highlight of the year was victory in his National Open championship, the SAS Masters, at the Arlandastad Golf in Stockholm, the first Swede to win the event in 10 years. In 2008 he also had 5 other top-10 finishes on the European Tour and finished in 16th place on the Order of Merit - his best ever finish.

 2007  BMW PGA Championship

24-27 May - BMW PGA Championship - West Course at Wentworth.

The BMW PGA Championship was played out on a rain-lashed West Course at Wentworth in Surrey. Traditionally, the PGA attracts one of the strongest fields on the European Tour and this time was no exception with Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Michael Campbell and others all making the trip across the pond. It was not, however, one of the better known superstars who walked off with the trophy and 725,000 Euro first prize, but Anders Hansen from Denmark who holed a 25 foot birdie putt on the first sudden-death play-off hole against England’s Justin Rose. This was only Hansen’s second victory on Tour – bizarrely the only other win was the same tournament – then called the Volvo PGA – five years earlier in 2002.
