Nick Watney

Residence: Roaquin, California
DOB: 25/04/1981
Watney was born in Sacramento and attended California State University where was a three-time All-American golfer. We don't know what that is but it certainly sounds impressive! He turned professional in 2003 and his first victory came the same year at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial event on the Canadian Tour. In 2004 he played on the second-tier Nationwide Tour, winning the Nationwide Tour Championship and earning his card for the full PGA Tour. In 2006 - his second season on the USPGA Tour, Nick Watney posted six top-10s and 11 top-25s to finish 75th on the US money list. 2007 started even better as he won his first main tour event - the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, sweeping him into the world's top 100 on the Official World Golf rankings. The course - the TPC in Louisiana - was heavily flooded because of drain-clogging debris including 2,000 fallen trees blown over during Hurricane Katrina - but it didn't stop Watney closing with a 3-under 69 for a three-stroke victory over Ken Duke - and bagging the $1.1m first prize. The 2008 season started brilliantly for Nick with at 5th place finish at the season opening Mercedes-Benz Championship. However the highlight of the young man’s season came at the Masters Tournament in April. 4 rounds in the low 70’s secured him a 11th place finish and over $170,000 in prize money. Nick finished 2008 in 121st place on the Money List with over $870,000 in prize money.

2007  World Golf Championships - CA – Doral

22-25 March - WGC - CA Championship - Doral Golf Resort and Spa - Blue Monster Course.

Tiger Woods bagged another $1.35m for his two-shot win over Ryder Cup team mate Brett Wetterich at the Blue Monster Course at the Doral Resort in Miami, Florida between 22nd-25th March 2007. No one ever got closer than three shots to Tiger on the final afternoon. The World Golf Championships are played over five continents – and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Australasian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour and Southern Africa Tour). The formats vary - match play, strokeplay and team - but the purses are always big! The WGC CA Championship is the fifth tournament Woods has won at least three times in a row.

In Nick Watney's bag...
A great close-up here of Nick Watney's bag showing the same clubs he used shortly after these shots were taken to win his first main tour event - the Zurich Classic in New Orleans in April 2007. He uses a 11.5 degree Titleist 905R driver, 15 degree Titleist 906F2 fairway wood. Long irons - the 3 & 4 - are Titleist 704CBs, while the 5 to pitching wedges are 695MBs. Wedges come in the shape of Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 56 and 60 degrees and the headcover hides a Scotty Cameron Newport Tour putter.
