Anton Haig

Residence: Johannesburg, South Africa
DOB: 05/08/1986
Anton is the youngest in a family of four boys. His earliest golfing recollection is watching his hero, Ernie Els, in the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City. Anton won the South African Amateur Championship before turning professional in 2004. Anton Haig’s biggest win to date came in March 2007 at the Johnnie Walker Classic where he bagged a 310,00 Euro winner’s cheque for holding off fellow countrymen such as Ernie Els and Retief Goosen to win his first European Tour title at the Blue Canyon Country Club in Thailand. With this victory Anton became only the sixth Affiliate Member of The European Tour to capture a title and therefore attain status as a Full Member. The win also pushed him into the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Other professional wins have included the 2005 Seekers Travel Pro-Am on South Africa’s Sunshine Tour and the 2006 Malaysian Masters on the Asian Tour. Anton failed to make the impact that he did in 2007 during his full rookie year on the European Tour. His best finish was a tie for 7th at the Qatar Masters. He could not consolidate a solid 67 in the open round. He should be thankful for his victory in 2007 as he did not do enough on the Tour this year to retain his card, finishing in 139th place on the European Tour Order of Merit.

2007  World Golf Championships - CA – Doral

22-25 March - WGC - CA Championship - Doral Golf Resort and Spa - Blue Monster Course.

Tiger Woods bagged another $1.35m for his two-shot win over Ryder Cup team mate Brett Wetterich at the Blue Monster Course at the Doral Resort in Miami, Florida between 22nd-25th March 2007. No one ever got closer than three shots to Tiger on the final afternoon. The World Golf Championships are played over five continents – and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Australasian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour and Southern Africa Tour). The formats vary - match play, strokeplay and team - but the purses are always big! The WGC CA Championship is the fifth tournament Woods has won at least three times in a row.

In Anton Haig's bag...
At the WGC in Doral, Anton was using the same set of clubs he used to win the 2007 Johnnie Walker in Thailand only a few weeks eariler: Callaway FT-5 driver, Callaway X fairway wood, X Forged irons, X Tour sand wedge. At the front of the bag in a black cover can be seen his Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball putter, but looks like he's also experimenting with a Scotty Cameron.
