Tom Pernice

Residence: Murietta, California
DOB: 05/09/1959
Tom Pernice Jr attended UCLA where he played college golf with several other tour players including Corey Pavin and Duffy Waldorf. He turned professional in 1983 and has won two US Tour events – the Buick Open in 1999, and The International in 2001. Our biog photo of Tom was taken at the PODS Championship at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida in March 2007 where he finished tied 11th with Vijay Singh. 2006 was his most consistent year, with seven top 10 finishes and nearly $2.5m in prize money – ending the season 30th on the US Money list. The highlight of the year came in the season closing event, the Tour Championship. Rounds of 67 and 69 over the weekend saw Tom finish in a tie for 5th place in the event that throws the top-30 earners from the year together. 2008, like 2006, was littered with top-10 finishes. The first came at the PGA Tour season curtain raiser, the Sony Open in Hawaii, where Tom finished in a tie for 8th place. 5 further top-10’s followed throughout the season and resulted in Tom finishing the season with over $1.3million in prize money and 80th place on the Money List.

 2007  PODS Championship

8-11 March - PODS Championship - Westin Innisbrook - Copperhead Course.

Won by 1998 Open Champion Mark Calcavecchia with a 10 under par score of 274. This was Calcavecchia’s first Tour victory since the 2005 Bell Canadian – and his 13th win in total. The $954,000 first prize takes him over the $20m career earnings for his career. He finished at 10-under 274 – and had a bit of a let-off when Heath Slocum missed a 4-foot par putt on the final hole which would have taken him into the play-off.
